Heather Brinsley

Heather is our assistant Head of Finance, being very process-driven and having a good eye for detail helps Heather in her key role in Unity of managing all aspects of finance and financial analysis in the business. Heather leads the financial planning, management and reporting functions and plays a key role in developing financial strategies that are aligned with Unity’s core company goals to ensure the business remains financially healthy. Heather also does a lot of work understanding the profitability of our products, services and contracts. She also collaborates with the other key functions in the business to provide insight and understanding to help decision making.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

Maths Teacher or Fire Fighter.

Tell me about your background and how you came to this role.

I have always enjoyed numbers, when I was in school, I wanted to be a Maths Teacher but went through the grumpy teens and didn’t enjoy A Levels. After working in Wetherspoons I decided I wanted to do better and went back to college to do Business Finance. I applied for my job with Unity when I was in third year and have worked my way up since.

Are there any upcoming projects that you are excited about?

I enjoy new projects, especially ones that hurt my brain and result in enhancing my current knowledge. Projects are quite adhoc to me so there could be one tomorrow that I just don’t know about yet.

What is the accomplishment that you are most proud of?

Getting a Bachelors Honours.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take with you and why?

Unlimited Cheese, Unlimited Prosecco and my Dogs.

If you had the ability to change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?

Poverty as I don’t like to think that any one is “better off” or “worse off”.

What helpful resources do you rely on in your job role?

Books.

My skull is too small for my brain.

What are your goals for the next year or so?

Carrying on working hard in my role, hopefully go to Uni and begin my next stage of knowledge expansion.

I don’t always know the answer.
