Unity Update: Awards, Growth and New Faces
As we step into a new month, we’re pleased to welcome three new additions to the Unity team: Johanne, Lynsey and Darren. Each brings their own specialist expertise, along with a shared focus on supporting our customers and strengthening the way we work together.
Their combined experience and fresh perspective will play an important role in shaping how we continue to grow as a business, enhancing both our internal collaboration and the level of service we deliver across Unity World.
📢 Joanne Behan – Marketing Project Manager
Joanne joins us as Marketing Projects Manager, bringing a wealth of experience across digital and traditional marketing, design, and PR. Her role centres on managing campaigns and projects across the business, ensuring everything runs smoothly while maintaining clear and consistent messaging.
Outside of work, Joanne has a real passion for music. She plays the flugelhorn and is actively involved in the brass band community, performing with Tees Components Brass, running the Brassettes podcast, and soon hosting Beacon Brass at Zetland FM. If she had the chance to instantly master another instrument, it would be the piano.
💻 Darren Rea – Customer Service Representative
Darren joins us as Customer Service Representative, working closely with both our customers and technical teams to keep everything running smoothly. From managing tickets to supporting order updates, Darren plays an important role in ensuring a seamless customer experience.
Originally from Aberdeen and now based in Middlesbrough, Darren brings a varied background, having previously worked as a carer. Outside of work, he’s a proud owner of four French bulldogs, each named after something he loved growing up, and enjoys keeping busy. If he could master a new skill overnight, it would be either criminal law or football.
Unity at “A Seat at the Table”
Unity was proud to sponsor and attend the “A Seat at the Table” (ASATT) Spotlight Event, hosted by the Assist Women’s Network at Middlesbrough College on 21st April. The event brought together women from across the Tees Valley for open, honest conversations about careers, confidence, barriers, and what it really takes to move forward in work and business.
What the event covered
The Spotlight Event celebrated everything Assist has achieved over the past 18 months, while also looking ahead to what’s next.
At the heart of the morning was a panel discussion, where speakers shared personal insights on confidence, careers transitions, identity, and experiences of imposter syndrome in the workplace.
A key theme throughout was the importance of access to meaningful, practical networks, not just in theory, but in day to day working life.
The panel explored:
- The role of strong personal networks in career progression
- Understanding and overcoming imposter syndrome
- How confidence influences career growth and opportunities
- Navigating the pressures of new roles and transitions
- Turning setbacks into learning opportunities
Addressing the barriers women face in leadership
Unity’s involvement
As sponsors, Unity spent the morning engaging with attendees, listening to their goals, understanding the challenges they face, and exploring what meaningful support looks like in practice.
We also introduced our services and connected participants with members of our team to discuss how we can support their next steps.
Looking ahead
A big thank you to the Assist Women’s Network for delivering such a valuable event and congratulations on the first 18 months of the ASATT project.
