Unity Achieves for Cyber Essentials Recertification
We’re pleased to share that Unity has successfully renewed its Cyber Essentials certification – an important milestone that reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting our systems, our data and our customers.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed certification that verifies organisations have the fundamental security controls in place to protect against common cyber threats.
It focuses on five key technical areas:
- Secure configuration
- User access control
- Malware protection
- Patch management
- Firewalls
Together, these controls form the foundation of a strong and resilient cybersecurity posture.
What the Five Security Controls Cover
Each area of Cyber Essentials addresses a critical aspect of business security:
- Secure configuration ensures systems are set up safely by removing unnecessary software and changing default systems
- User access control limits access to sensitive data, reducing the risk of unauthorised exposure
- Malware protection ensures systems are protected with up-to-date anti-malware solutions
- Patch management addresses vulnerabilities through regular updates and system maintenance
- Firewalls monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic
These controls work together to reduce risk and strengthen overall system security.
Why Recertification Matters
Cyber Essentials certification is valid for 12 months, requiring organisations to renew annually.
This process isn’t just a formality; it ensures that security measures remain effective as cyber threats and IT environments evolve.
Renewing our certification means:
- We remain aligned with current UK cybersecurity standards
- Our systems are regularly reviewed and updated
- Our systems can trust that security remains a priority
More Than a Tick-Box Exercise
For us, Cyber Essentials isn’t just about compliance.
It’s a core part of how we operate.
Maintaining certification requires continuous assessment, improvement and awareness, ensuring we stay ahead of emerging threats and protect the environments we manage.
Supporting Your Cyber Essentials Journey
We don’t just maintain our own certification – we help our customers achieve theirs too.
Our Cyber Essentials support service includes:
- Gap analysis to assess your current security posture
- Guidance through the certification questionnaire
- Practical recommendations to meet compliance requirements
We also support organisations preparing for Cyber Essentials Plus, which includes an independent external audit for additional assurance.
For many businesses, particularly those working with the public sector, Cyber Essentials certification is not only beneficial, but often required.
Get Started with Confidence
Our recertification reflects our commitment to strong cybersecurity, both within our own business and in the support we provide to our customers.
If you’re looking to achieve Cyber Essentials certification or renew your status, our team is here to help.
